Yakov, um ex-Hassid, aceita um emprego como shomer, sendo contratado para “fazer a vigília” do corpo de um membro falecido da comunidade. Tendo perdido a fé, Yakov não está ansioso para voltar à comunidade religiosa que abandonou recentemente. Mas quando Reb Shulem, um rabino e confidente, se aproxima de Yakov após uma reunião de um grupo de apoio e se oferece para pagar Yakov para ser o shomer de um sobrevivente do Holocausto recentemente falecido, ele aceita com relutância o trabalho. Logo depois de chegar à casa em ruínas, Yakov percebe que algo está muito, muito errado. Esta não será uma vigília silenciosa.
