O jovem médico Dr. Martin Blake (Orlando Bloom, de "Piratas do Caribe") passou a maior parte de sua vida profissional frustrado, sempre em busca de respeito. Quando uma paciente de 18 anos chamada Diane cruza o seu caminho, parece que enfim ele terá sua chance de redenção. Sofrendo de uma infecção renal, a menina logo melhora -- e Blake arma um plano para que ela continue sob seus cuidados, cruzando todos os limites da ética médica.
