Justo Leal é um jovem de origem humilde, que cursa o último ano da Faculdade de Direito na Universidade Nacional Autônoma do México. Mesmo como estagiário, ele é leal às suas causas e resolve com êxito casos de pessoas que não tem dinheiro para pagar um advogado. Mas, cansado do tratamento que recebe no escritório onde trabalha, após se formar, ele decide atuar sozinho, defendendo por conta própria os clientes pobres, sem esquecer dos ricos, que contribuem para pagar o seu salário.
