Após escaparem das garras de Maharajah Chandra, o arquiteto Harold Berger (Paul Hubschmid) e a dançarina Seetha (Debra Paget) são recapturados no deserto quase mortos. O Maharajah magoado por ter sido traído pelo seu amigo (Harold) e sua amada (Seetha) decidiu contratar o arquiteto Walter Rhodes (Claus Holm), que também é colega, amigo e esposo da irmã de Beger (Irene Rhodes / Sabine Bethmann), para construir uma enorme tumba para enterrar a mulher que o traiu… Ao mesmo tempo o irmão de Chandra (Príncipe Ramigani / René Deltgen), movido pela inveja, com o apoio de monges e nobres descontentes com o governo de Chandra, conspiram tomar o Palácio de Eschanapur. O casal apaixonado será colocado de frente com vários perigos para separá-los… Uma das melhores obras de Fritz Lang, com uma belíssima atuação da atriz Debra Paget.
