Adaptação cinematográfica do clássico da literatura Ulisses, de James Joyce, o filme inicia-se em uma manhã de 1904, quando Leopold Bloom, um agente de publicidade, começa uma viagem que vai se tornar uma das maiores histórias do século XX. Um conto de amor, perda e desejo. Uma aventura fantástica através da consciência e da imaginação. Apesar de levar uma vida repleta de obsessões moralmente duvidosas, Bloom e os outros personagens da trama são conduzidos em uma perspectiva épica. Tudo acontece na cabeça deles. Ainda assim, a narrativa chega a tal profusão de detalhes absurdos que não são poucos os que acreditam nos fatos ocorridos naquela manhã.
