Batoul é uma imigrante marroquina que vive na Bélgica com seu filho adolescente Ismael e seu marido abusivo. Quando Ismael desaparece, Batoul descobre que ele foi radicalizado por um grupo extremista e viajou para a Síria para se juntar aos rebeldes. Tentando localizá-lo e trazê-lo para casa, ela viaja sozinha e se disfarça de jornalista para entrar na zona de combate, mas acaba sendo emboscada e testemunhando a realidade agoniante de uma guerra devastadora. Agora, apenas sua coragem e seu amor incondicional pelo filho permitirão que Batoul supere todos os obstáculos e sobreviva aos perigos mortais do confronto.
