O documentário traça o pensamento e a trajetória de Ailton Krenak, líder indígena natural de Minas Gerais, descendente da etnia Krenak, outrora chamados Botocudos. Depois de estudar em São Paulo, Ailton foi atuante na defesa dos povos indígenas. Ao viajar pelo Brasil e pelo mundo, transformou-se numa espécie de embaixador das culturas originais brasileiras. O filme traz imagens e depoimentos de Ailton em diferentes momentos de sua vida, além de outros personagens que fazem parte de seu universo.
