A família Duncan embarca em num de sua casa em Denver para visitar os pais de Amy, os Blankenhoopers, em Palm Springs - todos, exceto a filha Teddy e a mãe Amy, que acidentalmente se perdem dos outros e acabam numa viagem de ônibus barato, uma experiência de pesadelo em um carro velho, pegam carona com um casal que dizem ter sido abduzidos por alienígenas e pedalando pelo deserto em uma bicicleta tandem. O tempo todo, os meninos Duncan sobrevivem a um Natal maluco com Vovô e Vovó Blankenhooper. Agora, nessa divertida aventura, os Duncan vão precisar correr contra o relógio para se reencontrar a tempo do natal.
