Davis Mann é um simples trabalhador, igual a milhões de outros, um homem comum que cruza o deserto para um compromisso de negócios. Sua vida transcorre sem problemas, até o momento em que ele tenta ultrapassar um lento caminhão-tanque. Sem nenhum motivo aparente, o motorista do caminhão começa a fazer um perigoso jogo de gato e rato na estrada, tentando tirar David de seu caminho. Em clima de crescente suspense, David aos poucos percebe que o caminhoneiro não está para brincadeiras: ele quer, a todo custo, assassinar o pacato homem. Qual seria o motivo de tanto ódio e violência?
