Baseado na peça de Shakespeare: Enquanto Veneza recebe seu general vitorioso, Otelo, o Mouro, de volta à cidade, alguns deles estão esperando que Otelo escolha seu novo tenente, enquanto outros estão ocupados cortejando a popular Desdêmona, a filha de um senador. Otelo escolhe o leal Cássio como seu tenente, despertando ciúmes amargos em Iago, outro soldado, que jura conspirar contra seu general.
