Ana é uma mulher refém da rotina obsessiva e neurótica do marido. Após um humilhante jantar, ela tem uma crise nervosa e colapsa. O marido a interna em uma clínica psiquiátrica, alegando que Ana tentou suicidar-se. Lá, ela conhece Helena, uma enfermeira que, suspeitando da trama do marido, induz Ana a participar de um grupo de apoio de mulheres. No grupo, Ana admite que é vítima de um relacionamento abusivo, e então encontra forças para, ao invés de fugir, reagir e tomar as rédeas da própria vida.
