Após uma colisão no ar com uma aeronave de carga, um avião de passageiros perde o controle e atravessa a toda velocidade os céus da Alemanha. A queda do avião é inevitavel e o ponto de impacto é facilmente calculado: o centro de Berlim. Uma velocidade catástrofe então se torna iminente. Em terra, uma equipe especial criada para contornar a total evacuação da capital é impossível. O que parece ser a única opção é utilizar força militar para abater o avião e desviar seu curso. Enquanto os passageiros estão apavorados, o capitão Michael Winkler e seu co-piloto, Niclas Sedlazcek tentam desesperadamente descobrir uma alternativa para evitar o desastre.
