Clancy Miller (Christina Fougnie) é uma garota de 12 anos, bastante maltratada e que vive fugindo para não ser levada por assistentes sociais, até que um prefeito corrupto (J. Robert Bailey), desesperado para ser reeleito, tem um plano secreto: ele oferece uma recompensa ao veterano de guerra, Nick (Jefferson Moore), para que ele desapareça por alguns dias com a garotinha fugitiva e, assim, o candidato à reeleição possa encontrá-la em grande estilo, na tentativa de que os eleitores o vejam como herói e, conseqüentemente, votem nele. Entretanto, o inesperado acontece e, Nick e Clancy precisam fugir para o interior, onde uma improvável amizade floresce à medida que, aos poucos, esse homem mal-humorado, que também já fora tão maltratado, começa a ver o mundo através dos olhos dessa menina angelical.
