Cora, uma norueguesa, encontra um documentário inacabado no qual Benjamim, seu pai brasileiro, tentava investigar, 50 anos antes, a história dos próprios pais dele: Teo, que morreu louco quando ele ainda era criança, e Elenir, uma mulher misteriosa de quem ele mal ouviu falar. Em sua investigação, Benjamin descobre que ambos fazem parte de um complexo quebra-cabeça familiar, cheio de traumas e tabus, no qual ele começa a se ver como uma das peças principais. O material presente no documentário de Benjamim é organizado e comentado por sua filha, na tentativa dela de compreender o passado perdido de sua família.
