Inundação em Krumau am Kamp: três corpos de crianças, duas meninas e um menino, são encontrados no porão da fazenda da família Trummler, que há muito está desabitada. As crianças foram sufocadas logo após o nascimento e enterradas no local. Uma reputação sombria precede os Trummelrs; a palavra "amaldiçoado" é usada mais de uma vez : após o desaparecimento da filha sem deixar vestígios. Os aldeões nunca esqueceram a tragédia, e assim esquecerão. Velhas feridas se abriram quando Marion Reiter, do esquadrão de homicídios de St. Pölten, assumiu a investigação. Ela é auxiliada pelo inexperiente, mas persistente policial local Ulli Herzog . Enquanto os dois se aprofundam nos segredos obscuros da família Trummel. A princípio, os dois não parecem se incomodar com a história macabra.
