Depois de alguns meses de namoro, Deb (Troian Bellisario) e Silvio (Arron Shiver), de trinta e poucos anos, estão esperando seu primeiro filho. Quando sua parteira idosa, Penka, morre repentinamente, Silvio toma a decisão precipitada de contratar o filho de Penka, Sascha (Will Greenberg), como sua doula residente. Deb fica perplexa, pois Silvio não a consultou antes de contratar, mas em pouco tempo, o estilo não convencional de Sascha a conquista. À medida que Deb e Sascha se aproximam, e a gravidez se aproxima de sua conclusão inevitável, Silvio começa a se sentir o estranho. Seus esforços contínuos para exercer controle sobre a gravidez levam a uma briga na qual ele força Deb a escolher entre ele e Sascha.
