Véspera de Natal de 1970. No campo militar grego Vati, próximo à fronteira com a Turquia, estão todos se preparando para a celebração anual de Natal. Os pensamentos do tenente anti-social Stefanos Karamanidis, no entanto, voltam-se a outra direção: ele é secretamente apaixonado por Zoe, esposa do Coronel Manolis Loggos, e pretende convidá-la para dançar tango no baile de natal. O problema é que ele não sabe dançar. Determinado a realizar seu desejo, o tenente recruta o tímido e sensível soldado Lazarus Lazarou como seu instrutor de dança.
